The Society for Minimally Invasive Therapy (SMIT) was founded in London in 1989 to provide a forum for the discussion of topics of mutual interest between endoscopic surgeons, interventional radiologists and companies of the medical technology sector. The 12th International SMIT Conference will be held from September 6-9, 2000 at the new location of the University of Applied Sciences, Gelsenkirchen and will be organized in collaboration with the Institute of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology of Witten/Herdecke University and the Department of Physical Engineering of the University of Applied Sciences, Gelsenkirchen. This interdisciplinary conference aims to give industrial exhibitors and the attendees the opportunity for an in-depth across-the-border information exchange on medical imaging tools, advanced technology and new applications. Surgeons, interventional radiologists as well as clinicians and scientists will attend the conference and are involved in its organisation. This cooperation complements the SMIT 2000 program to make it an unique international event.
